    Dental Emergencies

    By Patrick J. Soria, DDS | Blog | Comments are Closed | 30 June, 2024 | 0

Our teeth can be unpredictable, even with good oral hygiene. Accidents happen: teeth get knocked out, crowns fall off, or sudden pain arises without an obvious cause. Regardless of the severity of the issue, my team and I are here to assist you.

    When to Contact Us

If you’re unsure about the cause of your discomfort, it’s always wise to call us. We can help you determine if a consultation is necessary and what treatment may be needed. Reach out to us if:

    • You have unexplained bleeding in your mouth
    • You’re experiencing intense pain
    • You notice a loose tooth
    • You’ve been struck in the face or mouth
    • You feel discomfort accompanied by swelling
    • You observe swelling or lumps in your gums

    Common Problems and Solutions

    Toothache

Most toothaches can be addressed with simple procedures that alleviate pain and promote healing. If you are in pain, don’t delay seeing us, as the problem could worsen over time.

    • Clean the tooth as thoroughly as possible. Rinse your mouth well and floss, which might help relieve the pain.
    • If there is swelling, apply a warm washcloth to the outside of your cheek.
    • If the pain persists, see us within 2 days.
    • If you have swelling or a fever, you may need urgent care. Call us immediately.

    Tooth Loss

While it’s normal for children to lose baby teeth, an adult losing a tooth due to an accident should contact us immediately to see if the tooth can be saved or restored.

    • If you find the tooth, hold it by the crown (the visible part of the tooth, not the root).
    • Rinse it with warm water, but do not scrub it.
    • If possible, try to put it back in place. If you can’t, place it in milk until you can bring it to us.

    Lost Crown

Losing a crown can be painful as it exposes the tooth to air and temperature, causing sensitivity. Contact us right away if this happens.

    • Rinse the crown thoroughly if you have it.
    • If possible, place the crown back on your tooth using dental cement or a denture adhesive.
    • Bring the crown with you when you visit our office.

Remember, ignoring dental pain or discomfort increases the risk of further damage that might require more extensive treatment. If you have any concerns about your oral health, call us at 440.354.0705 for guidance or request an appointment online. In case of a dental emergency, contact us immediately, and we will do everything we can to assist you promptly.

    Sincerely,

    Patrick J. Soria, DDS
