How Regular Dental Check Ups Prevent Dental Emergencies

    By Patrick J. Soria, DDS | Blog | 0 comment | 29 September, 2018 | 2

You may think regular brushing and flossing is enough to avoid visiting our office at least twice a year, but if you’re not seeing us regularly you could be putting your mouth at risk of a dental emergency in the future.

So many times we’ve seen new and existing patients visit us in an emergency situation due to extreme pain.  In almost every case, the discomfort could have been avoided if the underlying conditions causing the pain was detected earlier.

It’s important to remember that the presence of disease or decay may be in your mouth but not yet causing you discomfort.

When we don’t have the opportunity to examine your mouth and take x-rays regularly, we miss the chance to diagnose small issues early, before they become larger, more painful, and more expensive to treat.

    Dental Cleanings Are Important

In addition to our exam, regular dental cleanings prevent the buildup of plaque and tartar which can erode teeth and promote cavities to form. Tooth decay can’t be reversed, but it can be stopped before it becomes a dental emergency.  Routine cleanings also give us a chance to evaluate your gum health. Catching early signs of periodontal disease can reduce the risk of a variety of other health concerns.

So remember, seeing us regularly is the best way to keep a healthy mouth!
